Wearable Sunshine: A Conversation with Anso on Style, Heritage and the Power of Colour

To step into Anso’s world is to step into a palette of vibrant hues and infectious optimism. Growing up in the fashion capital of Antwerp and now drawing inspiration from the radiant energy of African culture, Anso’s style is a bridge between European heritage and soulful, modern creativity. We caught up with her to discuss her favourite Ballo frames and what it means to live a "mindful" life.

The Nostalgia of the Nova

When asked about her love for the Nova frame in Pomelo, Anso points to the glamour of the 1960s.

"There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about them," she says. "They transport me to the glamour-soaked 60s, when sunglasses weren’t just accessories; they were pure attitude." For Anso, the Pomelo shade isn't just a colour, it’s "sunshine you can wear."

A Philosophy of Playfulness

For Anso, style is an internal compass. Despite the trend toward minimalism, she follows her heart toward objects and fabrics that spark genuine joy. This mindset is deeply influenced by the "good vibes" of African culture.

"African culture radiates joy and optimism... The humour, the vibrant energy, the effortless confidence - it inspires me to carry that same lightness in my own style."

Mindful Design

As a brand rooted in plant-based, handcrafted materials, we wanted to know what intentional design meant to Anso. Her answer?

"It’s about creating beauty that lasts... style isn’t just what you wear, it’s what makes you feel alive. Mindful design captures that feeling, blending purpose with pleasure."
