Ubuntu Vision - Enkosi fabric

How a small Cape Town sunglass brand collaborated with the largest NGO in the world:

In March this year I got an email with the subject line, "Request for a meeting - exploring potential collaboration between United Nations OHCHR and Ballo Sunglasses”. I could hardly beleive my eyes and after reading the mail called the number in the signature. A kind human called Sally answered the phone and told me the following story: in a brainstorming session of how to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights the team had come up with the theme of "Ubuntu Vision”. A cartoonist who assists with their brainstorms then drew a sunglass frame covered in patterns with people dancing in the lenses, someone in the team said, “those are Ballo” and off we went. We developed a pattern inspired by Ndebele art and produced 220 pairs of Ballo sunglasses to be given away by the UN at various celebratory events and functions. We have named the fabric "Enkosi" meaning thank you in Xhosa.
